1. How much does a website cost?

Startup websites are limited in design and start at $530.00.

Custom website design starts at $780.00. This is for fully custom-made web design either in WordPress or using HTML/CSS and the Bootstrap framework.

I then charge per web page, which starts at $130.00 relying on function. So for a standard 5-page site, I charge roughly $1400.00.

A custom website design by me is built for search engines. Each page is optimized around a chosen keyword. Which gives a great platform for the early days of your website.

2. How many pages should a website have?

The more information included on a website, the better chance it has of survival. However, many small businesses need to start small and build a website to establish their online presence.

When planning pages for a new site, ask yourself:

Are you a one-man band?

Are you a large corporate business?

What do you do?

Who is your target audience?

Have you got the resources to keep the site up to date?

I recommend an 'about' or 'background information' page that includes a good photo of you or your team, and the story of your company.

All company has a story and background information enables you to connect with your audience and gives clarity. Google rewards company websites that are transparent.

If you offer a number of services you could choose separate pages for each service or put them all on one page depending on your budget and content.

Companies that sell a product might require a shop area. A full eCommerce solution with an online basket can be provided, with secure payment facilities.

Or simply display the product example and use an enquiry form.

If your service is very visual, like an architect or a photographer, the website may be mainly a gallery or have a prominent portfolio page.

Accommodation businesses or restaurants usually include an online booking form and calendar, so visitors can see availability.

It is recommended to include a contact page with an enquiry form and, for local businesses, a map.

Data collection forms, linked to a newsletter are a good idea so that you can capture visitors. Try to offer something for free to encourage sign-ups.

3. How much does it cost to host a website?

To own and run a website each website owner needs hosting for that website. It is like renting space on a computer.

Website hosting varies from ISP (internet service provider) to ISP. There are very cheap ISPs, which can be as low as $30 per year. After a lot of experience with hosting companies, I avoid the cheap ones. They often have terrible technical support.

A realistic figure to host a website is between $30-$100 per year for a small website. ISPs can charge more if there is high traffic on a site or many files.

Do be aware that there is an additional charge per year or multiple years.

4. What is responsive design?

A responsive website is a site that will respond to any device it is viewed on, be it a smartphone, tablet, or computer. Your business website must be responsive for easy user access.

A responsive website is mobile-friendly which is important for search engine rank, as Google will show mobile-friendly sites first when users search on mobile. That is over 60% of searches.

6. How am I sure I am not paying the money to the wrong hands?

7. Can I get an official invoice?
Yes, all payments have invoices that can be emailed to you.

8. Do I have to file tax forms?
You should not be responsible for filing 1099-MISC forms. Beehive Digital Services is solely responsible for TAX payment

8.  How long does it take to make a website?

Again this depends on the complexity of your website and how urgent you need it. I always ask my clients how quickly they need their website up and running; whether it’s super urgent and they need it in a week or months, not so urgent and they need it in a month or so, or not urgent at all and they need one at some point when I’m free.

9. Should I hire someone to make my website?

You can hire someone or some company to make your website, but that’s if you have the funds and believe that you need this to happen. you would pay someone to develop and set up your website, then do it! Some people either don’t have time or just don’t want to bother with the process. You just need to make sure that you set your budget and find a professional company. 

10. How do I make money with my website?

This is a very popular question, and the most common request my clients ask me is if they can put ads on their website! The short answer is you can add advertisements on your website! But the truth is it’s not that easy. The act of putting ads up is easy, but the making money part is not so easy. The key is in your traffic and how many engaged users you have.

11. Can I see how many visitors go to my website?

Absolutely, and you should install some kind of Analytics to track how many visitors you are getting, and what they are doing. I recommend using Google Analytics because it’s free and many people use it. 

Things to look out for

When viewing your Analytics, you want to take note of how many unique visitors you are getting per day, as well as what pages are the most popular. There’s a lot more to look at such as which landing pages are most popular and what your bounce rate is, but to start I would recommend just keeping track of how many unique visitors you have, and what pages they visit the most. Also, keep in mind that there’s a difference between how many visits you have, and how many unique visitors you have. You can have a ton of visits, but if they’re only from 1 unique visitor then that means no one is really on your site!

You can Google Analytics code to all website pages, which will give you a very brief overview of your visitors and pageviews on your Website. I usually install this on client’s sites so that they can quickly see how their website is doing, without having to log in to Google Analytics.

Yes, and you can do this through your web server control panel. For  Web hosting, you simply click on e-mail > choose the correct domain name that you want, and create your email address.

13.  How will people find my website?

Optimizing your website for being seen by others is one of the most important things to do. This involves a combination of SEO, SEM, and online marketing. Most web developers out there just know how to develop the website and get it up and running. Search Engine Optimization, in a nutshell, is trying to get traffic to your website by organic search results from search engines such as Google, Bing, Ask and so more. To do this, you would use keywords that you choose, and make sure you use that keyword or keyword phrase in your URL title, page title, meta description, and the body of your content. SEM

Search Engine Marketing is gaining traffic through paid advertising such as Google Adwords and other Pay-per-click campaigns. In these ads, you also choose certain keywords and phrases to optimize your chances of people seeing your ad, as opposed to someone else’s.
